Cycling on the Canary Islands – Introduction

The Canary Islands are a two-hour flight away from the mainland of Spain. The islands, (like Hawaii), are islands that have been created by volcanic activity and therefore are mountainous, rocky, islands sticking out of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Canary Islands are blessed with beautiful weather all year long – it is almost always sunny and the temperatures average between 20 and 30 degrees.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are the most mountainous of the islands and therefore the best destinations for those looking to climb. This also applies to La Palma, which is especially attractive for mountain bikers.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are flatter and therefore accessible to all types of cyclists.
