Cycling in Northern Spain

A small coastline, a steep mountain range, and a descent into the dry, interior, landscape of central Spain – this what Northern Spain looks like from the sea. This website combines the areas of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country, Navarra, and la Rioja into one cycling region. We also include the northern part of Castile and Leon because the Camino de Santiago runs through it. Altogether, this is a remarkable cycling region including a variety of mountain landscapes, rugged coastlines, and lovely green meadows.

The northern coast of Spain is cooler, wetter, and greener than the rest of the country, making it a favorite destination for Spaniards from the interior attempting to flee the hot summer weather. For cyclists, this is a beautiful and challenging region with lots of elevation change that is pleasant to cycle even in the peak summer months.
