In short

Road Cycling on Mallorca: the island for passionate cyclists

Mallorca is a top destination for road cyclists, and for good reason. Its well-maintained roads, mild climate, and varied landscapes make it the perfect place to explore on two wheels. Begin near Palma or in the city itself, starting with a relaxed ride along the coast. Soon, you’ll venture into the quiet inland areas with peaceful roads and charming villages. Later in the week, the Tramuntana mountains await, known for their challenging climbs and thrilling descents.

  • Tour info: 8 days, 7 nights, 6 or 7 cycling days
  • Daily distances: your choice of 60 to 110 km with 600 to 2000 meters of elevation gain
  • Climbs like Sa Calobra, Cap de Formentor, and Puig Major

From Flat Coastal Roads to Memorable Climbs

The first days are spent on rolling roads through the countryside, cycling past vineyards, almond trees, and small villages where time seems to stand still. A stop at a local café for a cortado or bocadillo is simply part of the experience.

As the week progresses, you head north. The ride to Cap de Formentor is one you won’t soon forget: sharp turns, cliffs towering above the sea, and an endpoint that feels like the edge of the world. You’ll often share the road with fellow cyclists, adding a special camaraderie to the journey.

The Tramuntana Mountains

The final days are spent in the rugged Tramuntana mountains on Mallorca’s northwest coast. Here, you’ll tackle iconic climbs like the famous road to Sa Calobra and the Coll de Sóller with its 50 hairpin bends. Of course, many other beautiful climbs are waiting to be discovered.

Bike-Friendly Hotels

After a day of cycling, you can count on accommodations that cater specifically to cyclists. The hotels offer secure bike storage, hearty meals, and often even a small workshop for minor repairs. You might stay in Port de Pollença with its relaxed boulevard.

Mallorca: Something for Every Cyclist

Whether you’re into challenging climbs, fast descents, or simply racking up miles in a beautiful setting, Mallorca has it all. Sa Calobra, famous for its countless hairpin bends, is a ride every cyclist should experience. But the lesser-known routes have their own appeal too. Check out the day program and decide how you want to explore the island.

Day-to-day program

You can expand each day for more information.
Every day, you can choose from 2 or 3 different routes and distances (with corresponding elevation gains).

  • Day 1 – Arrival in Mallorca and optional Day Tour (44 km or 64 km, 79 km, 740 m+ or 980 m+)

Welcome to Mallorca! After a short transfer, you’ll quickly arrive at your hotel. Do you have an early flight? Then there’s time for a relaxing bike ride along the coast towards Palma. Enjoy the quiet roads, the climb to Galilea, and the stunning views of the Tramuntana mountains. End the day with a drink at a charming café in Puigpunyent or Palma de Mallorca. A perfect introduction to your holiday!

  • Day 2 – Through the Rural Mallorcan Countryside to Port de Cristo (68 km or 93 km, 590 m+ or 650 m+)

Today’s route takes you through the peaceful countryside. Cycle along rolling roads, charming villages like Llucmajor, and the picturesque Porreres. Lunch with a stunning view at the Santuari de Monti-Sion. Through quiet backroads, you’ll reach Porto Cristo, a lively harbor town with a lovely promenade. Enjoy a relaxing evening by the sea.

  • Day 3 – From Harbor to Harbor (78 km, 90 km, or 110 km, 590 m+, 820 m+, or 1600 m+)

Today, you’ll explore the heart of Mallorca. Start in Porto Cristo and cycle through vineyards and olive groves to the charming town of Petra, a favorite spot for a coffee break. Then head towards Muro and Sa Pobla via quiet roads. End the day in Port de Pollenca, where the fresh sea breeze and lively harbor area await you. A beautiful mix of nature and culture!
An alternative route takes you into the Tramuntana mountains for your first real long climb.

  • Day 4 – The Stunning Cap de Formentor Peninsula (42 km, 1100 m+)

Today, you’ll cycle through one of Mallorca’s most iconic areas. From Port de Pollenca, enjoy breathtaking views of the sea and steep cliffs. Choose the shorter route to Mirador de Es Colomer or take on the climb to the lighthouse at Cap de Formentor. Pause at a beach and soak in the Mediterranean vibe. A day filled with unforgettable panoramas!

You can also opt to explore the countryside: head to the Lluc Monastery. This route covers 78 km and 1200 m+.

  • Day 5 – Into the Mountains! (62 km, 87 km, or 77 km, 1450 m+, 2300 m+, or 1050 m+)

The route starts in Port de Pollenca and leads via Pollenca to the Coll de Femenia, a beautiful climb with stunning views. Then, ride rolling roads towards the Lluc Monastery and the iconic turn-off to Sa Calobra. Sa Calobra is an optional challenge. From Sa Calobra, climb to the top of Puig Major. The ride ends with a delightful descent to Port de Soller, surrounded by mountains and sea.

You can also choose to bypass part of the Tramuntana to reduce the elevation gain. This is the 77 km / 1050 m+ option.

  • Day 6 – A Loop Through the Mountains (65 km or 98 km, 1300 m+ or 2500 m+)

Would you prefer a challenging climb today or a more relaxed ride through beautiful surroundings? Choose from two stunning routes starting from Port de Soller:

Option 1: A shorter route with less elevation gain. Start with a climb to the artistic village of Deia and continue to the charming Valldemossa. Pass through Bunyola and finish with the Coll de Soller before descending back to Port de Soller.

Option 2: For those seeking more of a challenge! Ride via the Coll de Soller and the peaceful ascent of Coll d’Honor to the idyllic village of Orient. Climb the Coll de Sa Batalla towards the Lluc Monastery, and finish with a descent from Puig Major.

Both routes offer a mix of effort and stunning scenery.

  • Day 7 – Back to Palma de Mallorca (63 km, 85 km, or 99 km, 850 m+, 1700 m+, or 2050 m+)

On this final day, you have 3 options to cycle to Palma:

Option 1: A fairly direct route through the beautiful traditional village of Valldemossa. (63 km / 850 m+)

Option 2: Start with a solid climb to the artistic villages of Deia and Valldemossa. Ride through quiet backroads and vineyards to the charming Puigpunyent. After climbing to Galilea, enjoy a spectacular descent to Es Capdella and Calvia. End the day with the Coll de Sa Creu and a relaxing coastal ride to Can Pastilla. (85 km / 1700 m+)

Option 3: Begin with the coastal road towards Deia and Valldemossa. Follow the route through Esporles and Banyalbufar, including a stunning descent to Andratx. This route features more climbs, including the Coll de Sa Creu via Palma’s old military base. Finish with an easy ride to Can Pastilla and enjoy a well-deserved drink. (99 km / 2050 m+)

  • Day 8 – End of Tour

Depending on your flight, you can still enjoy the beach or Palma de Mallorca today. With a short ride to the airport, you’re guaranteed a relaxing morning.
