For decades, cyclingspain.com has been the go-to source of information and inspiration for cyclists planning a cycling holiday in Spain. Over the years, we have helped countless touring cyclists, road cyclists, and mountain bikers with information on cycling regions, routes, bike rentals, accommodation, bike transport, and more. Now, we are taking our service to the next level: you can leave the entire organization of your cycling holiday to us! Under the name Cycling Spain, we offer a complete package of organized cycling trips in Spain, catering to all types of cyclists and all levels.

Thijs van Vlerken - Owner & Guide

I am the co-owner of Fietsen in Spanje. After more than 15 years in the travel industry, I was looking for a way to pursue my passion for mountain biking and outdoor adventures. Coming from one of the flattest countries in the world, the Netherlands, didn’t help. In 2019, I made it my goal to find the best location to start my mountain bike company – mtbAdventures. After exploring Europe, I found Girona to be the most suitable city for my new adventure… With trails just around the corner and a stunning location close to both the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea, Girona is a fantastic MTB destination. Eventually, I spent 2 years living in Girona, mapping out Northern Spain to offer mountain biking trips.

Fast forward to 2024… I’m now back living in the Netherlands, and together with Hans, we have merged Cycling Spain and mtbAdventures into one company: Cycling Spain B.V. This brings together everything I’m good at and enjoy: organizing and leading beautiful cycling trips for a great group of people. My goal and drive is to create wonderful (cycling) experiences for our clients that will last a lifetime.

In 1983, as a young student in Spanish language and culture, I first visited Spain. The country has never let go of me since. I traveled countless times through Spain, visiting 50 provinces. I explored vibrant cities and tranquil villages, drove through mountains and plains, lush meadows and arid deserts… And I met many wonderful people because, above all, Spain is for me the land of friendly and life-loving people.

Since 2014, I’ve been mapping out Spain as a cycling destination. I continue to travel through the country, now with a bike, searching for the most beautiful cycling regions and routes. It’s an ambitious task because this country is vast and diverse, with so much to offer cyclists. All the information I gather can be found on this website, which has become the go-to source for anyone looking to cycle in Spain. One thing was still missing to complete the picture: offering organized cycling vacations under our own name. That is, until I met Thijs, a professional from the travel industry. Together, we are expanding this site into the ultimate destination for everyone, whether you want to cycle in Spain with complete peace of mind or plan your own cycling adventure.
