Gravel biking is a young but rapidly growing sport. Bike manufacturers, parts suppliers, and event organizers have all embraced gravel biking or are actively working on it. Even a venerable institution like the Tour de France has chosen to send riders over gravel roads.
Spain is a country with endless possibilities for gravel bikers. The country is filled with unpaved roads and trails—perhaps more than any other country, though I don’t have hard evidence for that. Not just a kilometer here and a kilometer there, but long stretches where you can keep riding. The 2,000 kilometers of Via Verde (gravel paths on old railway tracks) are also perfect for the gravel bike.
Even better: bike packing off-road from place to place across Spain on a gravel bike. The little luggage you carry is in bags attached to your frame and under your saddle. Of course, you can also use a small rack if you prefer. Either way, this so-called bike packing is fun and adventurous. With modern navigation apps, you can find your way even in the quietest parts of Spain.
