The Climate of Central Spain
Winters in Central Spain are cold, and summers are hot. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures, though rain is possible. In the autumn, from September to early November, it is often wonderfully calm. Near Andalusia, the winter chill fades early, but in the north, it stays colder for longer.
When to Cycle in Central Spain?
December, January, February
Generally too cold.
March, April
In the southern plateau (Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha), it starts warming up, and cycling becomes possible.
May, June
Excellent months for cycling, with the occasional shower.
July and August
If you’re a true northerner who likes to stay active in the (late) afternoon, you’ll need to handle the heat. It’s better to adapt and cycle early in the day (e.g., 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM). After that, your cycling day is done, and you can take it easy in the afternoon, enjoying the evening when life resumes. It’s cooler in the mountains.
September
The heat turns to warmth, perfect for cyclists. However, the landscape is now dry, and the summer festivals in the villages are over.
October
The risk of cooler weather and precipitation increases.
November
The southern regions are still in good shape, but in the north, the first snow might fall.
