Fancy a week of enjoyment in a beautiful, hilly region in southern Spain? Then this is for you. You start cycling from the lively Andalusian town of Ronda, and ride to your second accommodation in the lovely white village of Grazalema. From Grazalema there’s also a wonderful day ride: the climb to Puerto del Boyar. After that, you head via the idyllic Zahara de la Sierra towards Olvera – with its iconic church on the hilltop. You’re in mountainous terrain, so by the end of the week you’ll have gained quite a few altitude meters. However, this cycling holiday allows you to set your own level of challenge. You can choose shorter (or longer) daily distances, and even take a rest day. For the cycling stages we’ve chosen the quiet B-roads wherever possible. The tarmac is good, and drivers are almost always very considerate of cyclists. Another great thing about this cycling week is that you don’t have to pack your bags every day, yet still enjoy plenty of variety throughout the week.

Your tour begins in Ronda, a town full of Moorish influences and the impressive gorge of the Tajo River. From Ronda, you cycle via the picturesque village of Montejaque towards Grazalema, a gem in the middle of the natural park, where green valleys and winding roads shape the route. Here, you experience the authentic atmosphere of the white villages, surrounded by stunning nature.

The ride through the Grazalema Natural Park takes you over the Puerto del Boyar, a mountain pass with magnificent views. Then you continue via the famous Puerto de las Palomas — a climb with breathtaking panoramas — and the white village of Zahara, towards Olvera. From there, you ride south through rolling hills to the remarkable cave village of Setenil, where houses are built into the rocks. Along the way, you enjoy peace and space on quiet country roads.

The final day is the queen stage. This route leads you past the reservoirs of Ardales and through vast forests to the white village of El Burgo. After a lunch stop, you climb the Puerto del Viento and are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views. All that remains is a relaxed descent to your final destination: Ronda.

Back in Ronda, a pleasant evening in the historic town awaits — the perfect way to end this unique week in style. A week full of nature, culture, and a touch of sport.

Itinerary

You can expand each day for more information.
Some days, you can choose from 2 different routes and distances (with corresponding elevation gains).

  • Day 1 – Arrival in Ronda

Today, you arrive in Ronda, likely traveling via Malaga, which is just over an hour’s drive away. Along the way, you’ll notice the diverse landscape—rolling green hills, densely wooded mountain slopes, canyons, and striking rock formations. Ronda itself is a delightful town, vibrant with shops, restaurants, and terraces. It’s also steeped in history, boasting a charming old town, Moorish palaces, and Spain’s oldest bullring. The iconic bridge spanning the Tajo Gorge is a sight you may already recognize from photographs.

  • Day 2 – Loop Ride from Ronda (47 km, 1050m+)

You begin your adventure with a beautiful route through the hills south of Ronda. The climb to Faraján offers impressive views, while the descent through the green landscape takes you past charming villages such as Alpandeire and Juzcar. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to stop at a local café and take in the tranquility of the surroundings. The final kilometers lead you through a spectacular, almost lunar landscape, before a long descent brings you back to Ronda.

  • Day 3 – Towards Grazalema (63km, 1400m+)

Today’s ride is varied and follows mostly quiet country roads. You descend into the valley of the Rio Guadiaro and climb via the picturesque villages of Montejaque towards Grazalema. Passing through cork oak forests, you reach the mountain village of Grazalema — one of the most beautiful white villages, located in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema.

  • Day 4 – Sierra de Grazalema Loop Ride (39km, 630m+ or 55km, 1200m+)

A beautiful day of cycling through several white villages and across the Grazalema Natural Park. If you prefer, you can take a rest day or go for a scenic hike instead. The cycling stage leads via Villaluenga to Benaocaz, where the shorter option turns back. The longer route continues through Ubrique to El Bosque. In El Bosque you’ll find many bars and restaurants. From here, the route climbs to the unique mountain village of Benamahoma and further up to the well-known Puerto del Boyar, a mountain pass often featured in the Vuelta a España.

  • Day 5 – Grazalema - Zahara - Olvera (57km, 1100m+)

Today you can choose between a short, medium, or longer ride. All options take you through the rolling countryside between Olvera and Setenil. This stage leads you through a beautiful hilly landscape and the charming white village of El Gastor. The route combines shorter climbs with relaxing descents through scenic valleys. Take your time to enjoy the views and the quiet charm of the area. The ride ends in Setenil, the famous cave village built into the rocks.

  • Dag 6 – Olvera - Setenil ('t grottendorp) (62km, 1250hm /40km, 850hm /15km 300hm)

  • Day 7 – The Queen Stage via Ardales and El Burgo (108km, 2200m / 77km, 1670m)

Today’s stage takes you through the beautiful white village of El Burgo and over the climb of Puerto del Viento, returning to Ronda. The route passes through vast pine forests with plenty of climbing. The longer version includes an extra loop via Ardales and its reservoirs. El Burgo makes a perfect lunch stop — a good meal is recommended, as you’ll need energy for the rugged Puerto del Viento (the “Pass of the Wind”) in the afternoon. The climb starts gently but gradually becomes steeper. The landscape grows barer, and in the distance you can see the Sierra de las Nieves mountain range. Once at the top, Ronda appears in view — reached by a long, satisfying descent. You’ll spend your final night in Ronda.

  • Day 8 – End of the Tour

Your cycling week has come to an end. It’s well worth staying an extra day in Ronda to explore the city further. A taxi (at an additional cost) can take you back to Málaga for your return flight or for an extended stay in Spain.

Reviews
Great service, friendly guides and an excellently organised tour.

We booked a tour through Cycling Spain and our local guide was Cycle Ronda. Thijs from Cycling Spain was very attentive and arranged the tour within a few days. We had some unfortunate rainy weather, but it was great to know that both could support us if we needed it. Since it was low season, we actually saw our local guide Ferry at one of the hotels for bag pick up and it was nice to talk to him along the way. He also checked on my bike and made some minor servicing adjustments. The hotels were very clean, traditional and serviced by friendly staff. Certainly we would do this sort of tour again perhaps with a couple more double night stays per town.
