Almeria Bike Tours’ base is a few kilometers outside the city of Almeria (Andalusia). Here Christel and Francis have their so-called “bike station” – a great starting place for carefree bike rides under the sun.

  • Stay the night in a cozy Finca in a quiet location
  • Well maintained rental bikes (roadbikes and MTB)
  • 320 days of sunshine per year
  • Area offers many possibilities for both flatter rides and heavier climbs
  • Very friendly owners who make you feel welcome and comfortable

Cycling in the driest and sunniest region of Spain

Almeria is the driest province in Spain, with parts of the region that get less than 200 mm of rain per year – making it deserving of its official title of “desert.” It is a great destination for cyclists in spring, fall, and winter. In this sun-drenched region, we found a heartwarming place, Christel (German) and Francis’ (Spanish) bike station. This combination of German and Spanish means that it is both extremely organized and orderly (German influence) and warm and welcoming (Spanish influence). Almeria Bike Tours offers everything road cyclists and mountain bikers could need: bike rental, accommodations, and routes. From the bike station, Christel and Francis have created some beautiful routes on quiet roads and smooth asphalt.

Well organized and fun

We spent a few days taking some cycling day trips out of the Bike Station in February. The Finca is located in an interesting place – on the bank of a dry riverbed. There is a cozy living with a fireplace and for good reason – the nights are still quite cold in February! During the day, however, it is still a pleasant 24 degrees. There are 4 rooms in the Finca.

Christel takes good care of the cycling guests by providing a nice breakfast and the most delicious Spanish dishes, in which she uses as many vegetables, fruit, and olive oil from her own garden as possible. Francis also cooks the rice over the open fire outside, which increases the quality of taste immensely – I have never eaten such delicious paella!

Francis is a great mechanic with a passion for his profession. Our Steppenwolf road bikes were perfectly prepared and adjusted. There are many day trips you can take from the bike station. We cycled for two days and took different routes. One day we set out to the famous Cabo de Gata point (80 km and 760 vertical meters) while the other we took a beautiful trip through the desert landscape of the Sierra Alhamilla via Nijar and Tabernas (86 km and 1000 vms). If you want to cycle a bit longer or heavier you can do the famous Alto de Velefique (13 ascents with an average gradient of 7.95%).

We would highly recommend Almeria Bike Tours.
