Fancy a midweek of cycling in the beautiful, hilly, and mountainous surroundings of southern Spain? Then this trip is for you. It’s designed for intermediate to advanced cyclists. Each day you can choose between different route options, allowing you to tailor the distance and elevation to your level. On the first day, you can choose between two scenic rides south of Ronda. Then the round tour begins, cycling from accommodation to accommodation, the best way to explore this area and enjoy every climb it offers. Luggage transport is, of course, included. On day two, you ride through the beautiful white village of Grazalema and its mountain natural park, Sierra de la Grazalema, to the idyllic Zahara de la Sierra. The third cycling day follows the rolling roads towards Olvera — with its iconic hilltop church — and the cave village of Setenil. On the final day, one last memorable climb awaits. From El Burgo, you’ll tackle the Puerto del Viento and enjoy the long descent back to Ronda, a perfect way to end your cycling trip.

Our other Ronda road cycling holidays: the 8-days point to point tour or our 2-base camp-tour.

Your journey begins in Ronda, a city rich in Moorish heritage and known for the impressive Tajo Gorge. From Ronda, you cycle through the picturesque village of Montejaque and on to Grazalema, a gem nestled in the heart of a natural park, before reaching Zahara. Here, you’ll experience the authentic charm of the white villages, surrounded by striking natural scenery.

An optional route through the Grazalema Natural Park takes you over the Puerto del Boyar, a mountain pass offering breathtaking views. From Grazalema, you continue over the famous Puerto de las Palomas — a climb with phenomenal vistas — down to the white village of Zahara. From Zahara, you ride through rolling countryside via Olvera to the remarkable cave village of Setenil, where houses are built into the rocks. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the quiet of the backroads and the vast open landscape.

The final day is the queen stage. This ride takes you past the reservoirs of Ardales and through wide stretches of forest to the white village of El Burgo. After a well-earned lunch stop, you climb the Puerto del Viento, rewarded at the top with sweeping panoramic views. All that remains is a relaxed descent back to your final destination: Ronda.

Back in Ronda, a pleasant evening in the historic center awaits — the perfect close to a week filled with nature, culture, and the joy of cycling.

Itinerary

You can expand each day for more information.
Most days, you can choose from 2 or 3 different routes and distances (with corresponding elevation gains).

  • Day 1 – Arrival in Ronda

Today you arrive in Ronda. You’ll probably travel via Málaga, just over an hour’s drive away. On the way, the scenery already begins to impress — rolling green hills, forested mountain slopes, canyons, and striking rock formations. Ronda itself is full of life, with small shops, restaurants, and terraces. It’s also a beautiful historic town with Moorish palaces, old buildings, and Spain’s oldest bullring. The spectacular bridge over the Tajo Gorge is one of those sights you may already have seen in photos.

  • Day 2 – Loop from Ronda (47/80 km, 1050/1700m+)

You start your adventure with a beautiful ride through the hills south of Ronda. The climb to Faraján offers impressive views, while the descent through green countryside leads you past charming villages like Alpandeire and Juzcar. Along the way, there are plenty of local cafés to stop for a drink and enjoy the peace of the surroundings. The final stretch takes you through a rugged, moonlike landscape, before a long descent brings you back to Ronda.

  • Day 3 – Ronda - Zahara (60/100/130km, 1200/2000/3000m+)

Today’s stage is varied and follows mostly quiet country roads. You descend into the valley of the Rio Guadiaro and climb via picturesque villages such as Montejaque towards Grazalema. Passing through cork oak forests, you reach high-lying Grazalema — one of the most beautiful white villages, located in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. From here, you take on the Puerto de las Palomas climb before descending to the reservoir of Zahara, another iconic white village where you’ll spend the night.

For the longer route, you add an extra loop from Grazalema, descending towards El Bosque through a scenic valley. You then climb to the unique mountain village of Benamahoma and further up to the well-known Puerto del Boyar, a pass that has featured several times in the Vuelta a España.

  • Day 4 – Zahara - Setenil (55/75/100km, 1000/1600/2100m+)

From Zahara, the route undulates gently towards Olvera. If the weather is good, you can include a short stretch of the Via Verde de la Sierra (even suitable for a road bike). Just before Olvera, you’ll tackle the steepest climb of the whole trip — the short but punchy ascent from the Via Verde to the center of Olvera. From there, the route continues through rolling countryside between Olvera and Setenil. This section leads you through a landscape of gentle hills and the lovely white village of El Gastor. The route combines short climbs with relaxed descents through scenic valleys. Take time to enjoy the views and the peaceful charm of the region. The ride ends in Setenil, the remarkable cave village where houses are built into the rocks.

  • Day 5 – Queen stage via Ardales en El burgo (108km, 2200hm of 77km, 1670hm)

Today you cycle back to Ronda via the pretty white village of El Burgo and the climb of Puerto del Viento. The route passes through vast pine forests with plenty of climbing along the way. The longer version adds a loop via Ardales and its reservoirs. El Burgo is a great spot for lunch — a good idea, as you’ll need the energy for the demanding climb of the rugged Puerto del Viento (“Pass of the Wind”) in the second half of the ride. The climb starts gently but gradually gets steeper, the landscape becoming more barren as the Sierra de las Nieves mountain range appears on the horizon. From the top, you can already see Ronda below, reached by a long, flowing descent. You’ll spend the night back in Ronda.

  • Day 6 – Eind tour

Your midweek tour comes to an end. It’s well worth staying an extra day in Ronda to explore the town further. A taxi (at an additional cost) can take you back to Málaga for your return flight – or to continue your stay in Spain.

Reviews
Great service, friendly guides and an excellently organised tour.

We booked a tour through Cycling Spain and our local guide was Cycle Ronda. Thijs from Cycling Spain was very attentive and arranged the tour within a few days. We had some unfortunate rainy weather, but it was great to know that both could support us if we needed it. Since it was low season, we actually saw our local guide Ferry at one of the hotels for bag pick up and it was nice to talk to him along the way. He also checked on my bike and made some minor servicing adjustments. The hotels were very clean, traditional and serviced by friendly staff. Certainly we would do this sort of tour again perhaps with a couple more double night stays per town.
