Cross Country Tour Girona, Costa Brava and Cap de Creus

This unique tour takes you to some of the best spots around Girona, the Costa Brava and Cap de Creus. While most mountain bike holidays stay within one area, this route offers a completely different experience. You’ll see the landscape and trails change every day — from dense forests to sandy dunes and cliffs right along the Mediterranean Sea. As the grand finale, you’ll finish with one or two rides in Cap de Creus – the stunning peninsula in the Mediterranean. As a bonus, you’ll visit or stay in medieval villages such as Girona, Pals and the old fishing villages of Sant Feliu, Calella de Palafrugell and Cadaqués.
The trip can be customized to suit your preferences.

  • 95% off-road trails and singletracks, 5% asphalt
  • Tour info: 5 or 6 days, 5 or 6 nights, 5 or 6 cycling days

On the final day, we’ll take you back from Cap de Creus to Girona.

Itinerary

You can expand each day for more information.

  • Day 1 – Girona - Sant Feliu de Guíxols (65 km 1200m+)

    To the Coast!

The regular tour starts in Girona, but you can also begin from other locations. As soon as you leave Girona, you enter the Gavarres. This long stretch of forest runs all the way from Girona to the coast. On your first day, you’ll ride from Girona to the sea, crossing both the Gavarres and the Cadiretes massif. You’ll stay in a lovely hotel near the seaside promenade, where you can enjoy a well-deserved beer.

  • Day 2 – Sant Feliu de Guíxols - Calella de Palafrugell (48 km 1300m+)

The Remote Hinterland and the Fishing Village

Today you leave the coast behind and head back into the Gavarres. You’ll notice the difference: this side of the Gavarres is drier and has more white sand. Midway through the day, you’ll reach the medieval church of Santa Coloma de Fitor, a perfect place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat. After your break, you descend to Calella de Palafrugell. This gem of a village offers wonderful photo opportunities and cozy restaurants right on the beach.

  • Day 3 – Calella de Palafrugell - Torroella de Montgrí (51 km 1100m+)

Along Cliffs, Through Dense Forests and Historic Villages

The third day begins with stunning views and a descent right along the Mediterranean Sea. After this picturesque stretch, you follow the trails toward Begur and Pals—two small historic villages with charming cobbled streets. You’ll finish your third day in Torroella de Montgrí.

  • Day 4 – Torroella de Montgrí - Roses (64 km 600m+)

The Dunes of L’Estartit Gravel paths

Today you’ll mountain bike through the unique dune area between L’Estartit and L’Escala. Here, you’ll find mostly flowy trails and sandy paths with beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea. Midway through, you can enjoy a drink at the lovely bay of Platja de Montgó. In the second half of the day, you’ll ride relaxed gravel paths all the way to Roses.

  • Day 5 – Cap de Creus, Day 1

Depending on your trip, you’ll either make a loop through Cap de Creus and end back at your hotel in Roses, or ride through the park to Cadaqués. This is one of the highlights of the tour. You’ll cycle literally along the cliffs and coves all the way to the small beaches scattered across this peninsula. Expect breathtaking views and rocky, loose trails that are never dull and always beautiful.

  • Day 6 – Cap de Creus, Day 2

(Optional day). Starting from Cadaqués, you ride a beautiful paved road to the easternmost tip of mainland Spain: the lighthouse El Far. Once again, you’ll have stunning views. From El Far, you follow singletracks and gravel paths deep into the wilderness of Cap de Creus. The final descent takes you back toward civilization. From Roses, you’ll be transferred back to Girona.

Reviews
We had a fantastic time and will definitely book with them again.

This is the second time we have used Cycling Spain and it has been the best experience. Thijs organized two coaches/guides and a driver to take our 3 boys on 3 wonderful days of guided adventures. We have taken many mountain biking trips with our kids and they loved this one the most. We will be back, and would recommend your guiding services to anyone looking to ride all the great trails around Girona and Costa Brava.
