Enjoying the Fascinating Sights of Palma by Bike
Palma de Mallorca is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean and is the beating heart of the island in every respect. The city has 400,000 inhabitants, which make up one-third of the total population of Mallorca.
The old center of Palma has a myriad of winding, narrow, streets and the history of the island can be seen through admiring the old buildings and architecture around the city. Not much is left of its Moorish roots, but much has been preserved from the following centuries, including beautiful squares and grand city palaces. The city has many impressive houses in the Jugendstil style of architecture, but the most stunning and famous building in Palma is the Gothic cathedral La Seu, from the 14th and 15th centuries. There is a bike path around the city and the port of Palma, which continues all the way along the famous beaches and to the east of the city.
It is a shame that many tourists miss the city of Palma (the cultural center of the island) by going directly to their hotel on the coast from the airport. To those planning on visiting the island, we recommend spending at least one day of your vacation here, especially considering you can get to the know all of Palma de Mallorca quite well in a three-hour bike ride.
