Cambrils: An Up and Coming Cycling Destination
We always prefer renting a road bike from a bike shop with a workshop attached to it. This ensures that there are professionals on-site who know the correct seating positions and who can make adjustments to your rental bike if necessary. The friendly Catalan Jordi Mariné is such a craftsman. He has modern stores in Tarragona and Cambrils. The latter town, located on the Costa Dorada (south of Barcelona), is doing its very best to become a key cycling destination and enthusiastic entrepreneurs such as Jordi Mariné play an important role in this effort.
We visited Jordi’s bike shop on the outskirts of Cambrils where he rents carbon road bikes from Trek, among others. Along with your rental bike, you will also receive a repair kit, pump, and a bike computer attached to the handlebars. Jordi also helps you with routes, with which you can explore the mountainous interior of Cambrils. The roads are beautiful and you will find mountain passes between 500 and 1000 meters. You also don’t have to feel guilty if you leave your non-cycling partner behind in Cambrils because this chic town has a lovely beach, many terraces, and a surprisingly large number of shops.
We did not visit the Tarragona location, but the assortment of rental bikes is the same as the one in Cambrils.
